Geelong's Business Events Future Begins as Nyaal Banyul Officially Opens

Geelong and The Bellarine have reached a significant milestone in their evolution as one of Australia's leading regional business events destinations, with the official opening of the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre.

Officially opened today by Richard Marles and Jacinta Allan, the landmark venue cements Geelong's position as home to the largest convention and event centre in regional Victoria.

The $449 million precinct delivers a new era of opportunity for business events in the region, featuring a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition halls, meeting rooms, conference facilities and flexible event spaces designed to attract conferences, conventions, exhibitions and incentive programs from across Australia and internationally.

Complementing the venue is the adjoining 200-room Crowne Plaza Geelong, providing delegates with premium accommodation within the precinct and further strengthening Geelong's capacity to host large-scale business events.

The centre will welcome its first events from next month, with more than 80 conferences and events already secured.

Meet Geelong and The Bellarine, Business Events Manage, Tamie Ryan, said the opening represented a transformational moment for the region's business events industry.

"The opening of Nyaal Banyul is a game changer for Geelong and The Bellarine and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our region," Mrs Ryan said.

"For many years we have been competing for national conferences and events that required infrastructure of this scale. We can now confidently attract larger conventions, association conferences and corporate events while showcasing the incredible experiences, venues and hospitality that exist throughout our wider region."

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles highlighted the significant economic opportunities the precinct will create for the region.

"Nyaal Banyul will open up further opportunities for the Geelong economy, with events bringing in more business for our local cafes, hotels, pubs and restaurants, securing local jobs."

Acting Minister for Tourism Steve Dimopoulos said the investment would strengthen Geelong's position in the business events market.

"We're helping Geelong host more major conferences and events, strengthening its reputation as a leading regional destination."

The precinct is expected to support more than 240 ongoing jobs and create opportunities for local suppliers and event partners, with more than 50 local businesses already engaged in delivering events and visitor experiences.

As the official convention bureau for the region, Meet Geelong and The Bellarine is working closely with event planners and industry partners to leverage the opportunities created by the venue and attract new business events to Geelong, The Bellarine and surrounding regions.
